Gary Duizendstraal, age 78, resident of Thunder Bay, passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospice on April 30, 2024.

Gary will be sadly missed by his wife Cheryle and family, his pets Maggie, PomPom and Emma, his sister Reine Giamberardino and family, his grandson Corey and his many friends and computer customers he met over the years.

Born on July 16, 1945 in DenHelder, Netherlands, he immigrated to Canada with his parents and sister in 1953, residing in Hamilton. He joined the Canadian Forces in 1966 completing the Engineering Equipment Maintenance Course. He was hired in 1976 by Confederation College as a Heavy Equipment Mechanics Instructor working in the Dorion Building and known as one of “The Dirty Dozen”. Gary was awarded the 2003-2004 Excellence Award for Faculty, only one of his many accomplishments at the College, retiring in 2010.

Gary enjoyed being Owner and Manager of G. D. Software. He built, programmed and maintained computers for his many friends and customers. Gary went from a Mechanic to a Computer Whiz.

Gary was predeceased by bis parents, his wife Toni, and his sons Byron and Corey.

Cremation has taken place. As per Gary’s wishes no service will be held.
