It is with the deepest sadness that we say goodbye to Elizabeth (Betty) Vignuda, devoted sister of Albert and the sweetest, kindest, most caring aunt in the world to Cheryl Lysak (Bob), Margaret Harris, Thomas Vignuda (Angel) and Peter (deceased/Geraldine). Betty passed away gently in Thunder Bay on April 11, 2024 at the age of 91 following a brief illness and only seven weeks after the death of her beloved brother, Albert (age 84).

Always supportive from our earliest childhood, holding us close on long walks with fun little stops along the way, filled with the best advice and urging us to always follow dreams, Betty had a cherished and unmatchable place in our lives. We have lost a piece of ourselves.

In her younger years, Betty loved the freedom and independence of her ‘messenger’ work for McKellar Hospital, carrying important medical results and documents from hospital to clinics and back again, rain or shine, freezing and snowy or not. After a brief stint at Chapples department store, McKellar Hospital beckoned again and applied her reliability and dedication to the Records Department, where Betty again loved the job and made many friends.

When her aged parents’ health declined, Betty left the workforce and was selfless in making every effort and sacrifice to provide the years of care and dignity that added the best possible quality of life to her mother and father. Betty knew the personal cost of that commitment and never, ever regretted it.

In addition to Albert, Betty was predeceased by her parents (Francesco and Rosa), her brother Peter (Margaret, also deceased) and her nephew Peter Franklin.

You will always have that special place in our hearts, Betty; when we think of what was good and right in this world, we will always think of you. You gave us those early years of adventure, teaching and support and you kept it up for a very long time.

At Betty’s request, there will be no service and a private family gathering will follow.

In Betty’s memory, please do something nice for someone this week.
