Mrs. Gillian Irene Britton, age 83 years, resident of Thunder Bay, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital on Friday, April 19th, 2024.

Born December 30th, 1940 in Devon, England, she was raised and educated in Kent, England where she became Head Girl (of 1000 girls) of her high school in her final year. She completed her training to become a Registered Nurse at Guy’s Hospital, London, England. She was employed as a RN with St. Joseph’s Hospital in earlier years, and later with the VON, retiring in 2001 after 22 years of service. She was a member of Current River United Church. Gillian enjoyed gardening, dog walking Tucker (Keesha & Spunky), golfing and caddying for husband Ken in tournaments and after being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2000, she spent many happy years paddling and racing with the breast cancer survivor dragon boat team: The Dragons of Hope. She enjoyed being out on the water, including the times out on Lake Superior in the 6 man outrigger canoe. Volunteering was a regular part of her life, including parent volunteer at school, Cub leader, youth group leader, Shelter House volunteer and as a purchaser for Current River Churches Food Cupboard.

Gillian is survived by her children Richard (Lisa), Jeremy (Sherry), Tim (Marnie) and stepson Tom (Donna), grandchildren Nikki, Travis, Zachary, Addison, Kristi, Jenni, Kelsi and Hayli, sisters Barb (Bob) and Val (Rod), niece Susan (Dave), nephews Doug (Wendy, deceased) and Brandon, as well as cousins Mary, Thelma and Rita. She was predeceased by her husband Ken, parents George and Alicia Page, grandnephew Cole and aunts and uncles in England.

Cremation has taken place, and services will be held at a later date.
