Gino Valentino Taiariol, aged 93 years, lifetime resident of 606 McTavish Street in Thunder Bay, passed away at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on February 12, 2024.  Gino was born on August 25, 1930, in Fort William, Ontario.  He attended St. Peter’s school, Fort William Vocational High School and King’s Business College.

Gino worked for Lake Shippers Clearance Association, retiring as the Office Manager in 1995 with 44 years of service. Gino coached the East End Midget and Junior Baseball teams in the Lakehead Baseball Association. He loved all spectator sports, especially baseball and the San Francisco Giants.  He attended St. Dominic’s Roman Catholic church when it was in the East End and more recently attended St. Dominic’s Roman Catholic Church in Northwood. 

Faith and family were the most important things to Gino. He loved his home, friends and neighbours in the East End. He was a member of the Northwestern Sports Hall of Fame and he supported a number of charities throughout his life including foster children with Plan International Canada, the Canadian Red Cross, Cancer Research, George Jeffery Children’s Foundation and the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation.

Gino is survived by his nieces and nephews Yvonne Dwinnell, Dennis Pella (Pennie) and Danny Pella (Patti); nine great nieces and nephews, Shannon (Rob), Matthew, Lindsay (Nicholas), Melanie (Alex), Daniel (Katie), Grace, Thomas, James and Michael; ten great, great nieces and nephews, Grayson, Bevan, Rory, Daniel, Benjamin, Olivia, Sam, Ella, Henry and Max. Gino was predeceased by parents Eugenio and Ginesta (Favot), sister Irene in infancy, sister Gloria in 2018 and brother-in-law Bruno Pella in 1991.

A Funeral service will be held on Monday April 22, 2024 at 11am at St. Dominic’s Church with a luncheon to follow. There will be a private family interment at the Mountain View Cemetery.
