Liars at a Funeral will make the audience laugh and cry

Liars at a Funeral opens May 10 with a preview on May 9.

THUNDER BAY – Magnus Theatre’s newest stage production is sure to make the audience laugh and maybe even cry, too.

Liars at a Funeral will be taking over the main stage at Magnus Theatre throughout the month of May.

Written by Sophia Fabiilli, the play tells the story of Grandma Mavis's attempt to reunite her estranged family in an unconventional way - by staging her own funeral just in time for a thunder storm to trap the eccentric family in a funeral home for 24 hours during Christmas.

"It's a hilarious program full of surprises and shenanigans,” said Barbara Saxberg, who plays Grandma Mavis.

“It's fast and it's heartwarming. It's really about bringing families together. I think this is a show for anybody - there's a lot of fun in it and a lot of laughter.”

Liars at a Funeral features a five-person cast.

Thom Currie, artistic director, said the show is equally hilarious and heartbreaking.

"It's a really funny kind of traditional farce where everyone is trying to maintain this lie. A blend of local Thunder Bay talent, Barbara Saxberg is in the show playing Mavis, and artists from all across the country."

Liars at a Funeral opens May 10 with a preview on May 9. It runs Tuesday to Sunday each week until May 25. Tickets are available at the box office or on Magnus Theatre’s website.
