It is with broken hearts that the family of Vidoje Jovanovic, age 87, announce his passing on May 8, 2024 at St. Joseph’s Hospice.

Vidoje was born on April 25, 1937 in Taor, Serbia. He was a diligent, dedicated, hardworking man who was employed with Great West Timber as a machine operator. In his retirement years, he volunteered many hours cleaning and grooming the church grounds, as he believed in keeping everything in his life neat, tidy, and orderly. He was also a longstanding member of St. George’s Hall.  He loved spending time fishing at Lake Kashabowie, tending to his bountiful garden, watching old western movies, and popping by the casino every once in a while. He deeply cherished his Serbian roots; traditional music and Serbian folklore often brought tears to his eyes. His family remembers Vidoje celebrating his Slava with barbecued pig and a bottle of Slivovica on hand.

It was important for Vidoje to stay connected with his circle of friends, and he’d frequently meet them at the mall for a coffee, a story, and a laugh. Above all else, he was a family man who ensured they were always cared for, protected, and lacked nothing. His kind demeanor will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Left to mourn his loss are his wife Milica, son Milos, daughter Joanne, and grandson Trevor. He was predeceased by his grandson Jamie, his parents, and a sister from tuberculosis.

With immense gratitude, the family thanks the staff at the TBRHSC, St. Joseph’s Hospice, and Physio for all their care and compassion. Additionally, thanks to the VON, ParaMed nurses, paramedics, and fire department for their invaluable assistance.

A funeral service for Vidoje will be held on Tuesday, May 14, at 11 a.m., at Sargent and Son Funeral Chapel. He will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery following the service.
