LAKEVILLE, Minn. – It was a successful trip across the border for the Thunder Bay Pickleball Club.

The club brought back 10 medals from the Pickleball Central Indoor U.S.A. Championships, which were held in Lakeville, Minn. from March 6-10.

TBPC president Tudor Nisioiu said while getting the medals was great, that wasn’t the main takeaway from the tournament.

“It was about the camaraderie forged through countless hours of practice, the bonds strengthened by shared victories and defeats, and the joy found in the pursuit of excellence,” Tudor added.

“Their success is a testament to their dedication, perseverance, and unwavering passion for pickleball.”

Florina Nisioiu had a strong week as she brought home three medals.

She won gold with Tudor in the mixed doubles 3.5 50-59 event, captured a silver in the singles 3.5 50-59 and teamed up with Krista Lamb for a bronze medal showing in the mixed doubles 3.5 under-35 event.

Jason Horychuk and Dan Peerenboom also reached the top of the podium. Horychuk placed first in the singles 4.0 35-49 division and Peerenboom won the singles 3.5 60-69 event.

Jake Karwczuk returned to Thunder Bay with a pair of bronze medals. He finished third in the singles 3.0 under-35 category and teamed up with Tudor for a spot on the podium in the men’s doubles under-35 division.

A total of 16 players represented the club in their first appearance at the event, which featured competitors from across North America and Europe.
