THUNDER BAY -- A local car dealership has turned likes into turkeys.
Thunder Bay Mitsubishi made a deal on Facebook that for every 50 likes they received, a turkey would be donated to Shelter House in time for Thanksgiving. On Thursday a dozen frozen birds showed up, which will help as the shelter expects to serve 16 of them to more than 300 people on Monday.
“It’s the first time we did it and I definitely think we’ll do it again,” Mitsubishi general manager Jeff Witiluk said.
“We’re very fortunate to live the life we do and every opportunity we get to help out and help others less fortunate we take full advantage of that,” he said.
Shelter House kitchen coordinator Michael Quibell said they expect more people Monday than the 300 the served for Thanksgiving last year.
"Because our lineups for meals are certainly increasing,” he said.
The shelter will be accepting donations throughout the weekend to make sure everyone gets a proper Thanksgiving meal. That includes turkey, buns vegetables, stuffing, gravy mix and even pumpkin pie should the community be so kind as to donate some.
"It’d be great. Anytthing is welcomed and appreciated,” Quibell said.
