Fort William Historical Park is buzzing with activity even before the long weekend winter carnival begins.

Staff at the historical park are putting the finishing touches on preparations for the annual Voyageur Winter Carnival, which will take place this Family Day long weekend.

The carnival features various winter activities like curling, skating, snow catapult, sling shot, tubing and the popular world-record breaking, snow maze.

"We have plenty of activities for the whole family to enjoy," said Marianne Bortolin, visitor experiences coordinator.

"There will be family contests held each day, traditional games, and people can even come out and fire a musket.”

Due to the popularity of last year's helicopter rides, Fort William Historical Park will be introducing a secondary helicopter that will be around all weekend.

"We are very excited for our annual Voyageur Winter Carnival here at Fort William Historical Park," Bortolin said. "Seeing everyone come out and enjoy this beautiful facility, the energy of the whole event it is just contagious."

The carnival runs Saturday to Monday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for students, youth and seniors and children five and under are free.
