THUNDER BAY – Who says getting stuck in a sand trap is a bad thing?

It certainly paid off for Mylene Roussy-Lahaie.

She's $10,000 richer after winning the Thunder Bay Casino's third annual Treasure Hunt Contest, a partnership with CKPR Radio, collecting her riches on Thursday afternoon.

The month-long virtual scavenger hunt led her to a greenside bunker on the 17th hole at Chapples Golf Course, earning her the contest’s top prize.

She plans to spend the money helping to pay for her honeymoon after she gets married in June.

“All month we had a map planned out with the golf course on there with Xs all over it and actually my last guess yesterday I circled No. 17 and pointed to the sand trap. I got in and there you go,” she said. “I won it.”

The happy couple had already planned a post-wedding trip to Nanaimo, B.C.

“That’s a nice present and will be a nice honeymoon,” she said. “Maybe we’ll get some nice spa days in there.”

OLG’s Karen Marconi said the nature of the contest meant they never knew when it would come to an end.

“We’ve been on pins and needles for the last month and were kind of up to the last money needing to get a winner,” Marconi said.

“It’s really a fantastic promotion, it’s our third year, and hopefully we can go on with it next year.”
