This has been a difficult day for our brothers and sisters in the Canadian Forces. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the soldier who was shot and killed today in Ottawa.

The situation in Ottawa continues to unfold and is an ongoing investigation.

Today, the senior command of the Thunder Bay Police Service met with senior officials from HMCS Griffon, the Thunder Bay Armories, the Ontario Provincial Police and the local detachment of the RCMP.

Chief Levesque also met with Mayor Keith Hobbs and City Manager Tim Commisso.

These meetings were held to assess the security situation in Thunder Bay and to recognize the ongoing need for vigilance in our community during these difficult times.

The Thunder Bay Police Service will continue to work with our provincial, national and local law enforcement partners to ensure the safety of those who we serve and protect.

The events today in Ottawa underline the importance of being prepared in the face of any potential threat to our country and most importantly, our own communities.
