THUNDER BAY -- Police have made an arrest in connection with a hit and run that knocked out telephone service to a city neighbourhood Monday.

About 60 Tbaytel customers were left without telephone, Internet and television services after a pickup truck crashed into a telephone switch box just after midnight Monday at the corner of Goods and Woodcrest Roads.

The box, which costs more than $50,000, was left demolished.

The driver had fled the scene before police arrived.

Thunder Bay Police Service officials confirmed that an arrest had been made in connection with that incident, but have yet to provide details regarding charges.

Telephone service has since been restored.
