THUNDER BAY -- The price of natural gas is set to rise.

The Ontario Energy Board has announced that the price of natural gas will increase in the New Year.

The board approved a four per cent increase in rates for Union gas customers in Northern Ontario. The company says that will translate to about a $43 to $64 annual increase, although the specific value of the change is dependent on where you live.

Union Gas officials say the increase is required to accommodate increased transportation costs being charged by TransCanada Pipelines.

The increased price goes into effect on Jan. 1, 2015.
