A barn fire on Highway 590 left about a dozen chickens and few goats dead.

O’Connor Township Fire Chief Henry Mattas said the 384 square foot structure was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived on scene on Friday morning.

“The owners saw smoke coming out and we were called,” Mattas said. “The barn was down and there are a few bales of hay burning. We’re going to rip that apart.”

About six firefighters responded to the blaze, which Mattas said they’re unsure how it started.

“It’s too early,” he said.

No one was hurt in the fire.
