THUNDER BAY -- Bitterly cold temperatures caused problems for emergency vehicles responding to a crash on the Thunder Bay Expressway.
A collision involving up to four vehicles happened Monday afternoon at the intersection of the Expressway and John Street, leading to one of the vehicles catching on fire.
Thunder Bay Fire Rescue crews responded and were able to put out the flames.
There was a delay in reopening the affected lanes because water used to extinguish the fire froze on the highway, creating slippery conditions.
Road maintenance crews had to be brought in to lay down salt to melt the ice.
There were no major injuries as a result of the crash.
