UPDATED: Lost hikers rescued on Mt. McKay in 14-hour ordeal

THUNDER BAY -- Firefighters have rescued four disoriented hikers who were lost climbing Mt. McKay. Thunder Bay Fire Rescue engaged in a 12-hour response between 9 p.m. Saturday and 10:30 a.m.

THUNDER BAY -- Firefighters have rescued four disoriented hikers who were lost climbing Mt. McKay. 

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue engaged in a 12-hour response between 9 p.m. Saturday and 10:30 a.m. Sunday, which ended without injury to any of the hikers aged between 15 and 21. All refused care at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

The four were discovered on the east face of the mountain overlooking Lake Superior. Crews came to their aid descending 120 metres on ropes.

"Once each hiker was harnessed to a line, the were lowered one at a time an additional 60 meters to a trail where firefighters escorted them across the lookout area of Mt. McKay where they were assessed by paramedics," a release from the fire department reads.  

The rescue evolution required 3 Pumper crews, the technical rescue trailer and 14 hours to safely complete.
