THUNDER BAY - Thunder Bay's Alzheimer society has kicked off a campaign to make city businesses more accessible for those living with dementia.

The Blue Umbrella is an education program, aimed at helping businesses and organizations be more dementia-friendly.

Groups which sign on for the Blue Umbrella program receive an education session on how to better help customers with dementia.

Once complete, groups will receive a follow-up visit to see how they may have improved.

Businesses will receive a Blue Umbrella sticker to show they've completed the program.

The Alzheimer Society officials said programming like this helps curb some of the social isolation associated with dementia.

Businesses interested in participating are asked to contact the Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay.

The Blue Umbrella program is partly funded through a $75,000 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
