OPP seize contraband cigarettes

IGNACE, ON — Ontario Provincial Police have released details of their recent seizure of a large quantity of illegal tobacco in the Ignace area.

During a traffic stop on Highway 17 on Nov. 2, 2018, OPP discovered 75,000 unmarked cigarettes being transported in a vehicle.

The cigarettes are worth an estimated $44,000.

Police charged a 52-year-old Dauphin, Manitoba man and a 45-year-old man from Camperville, Manitoba with possession of unmarked cigarettes for the purpose of sale.

Both accused are scheduled to appear in court in January.
