Synergy North sparks safety with kids at Woodcrest PS

Students learned some of the dangers surrounding electrical safety during a presentation at Woodcrest Public School on Thursday afternoon.

THUNDER BAY — Students at Woodcrest Public School were plugged into a safety lesson about electricity from Synergy North on Thursday.

In the afternoon, two team members from Synergy North provided a lesson about the risks and hazards of electricity.

Susan Frattaroli, Synergy's Be Power Safe program administrator, was happy to bring the program back into schools.

"We thought since we haven't been in schools in a couple of years, it was a great opportunity to rebrand and to freshen the program," she said.

"We want to come into the schools as part of our public safety initiative and to get the word out there and tobe part of the community. It's great to be in the schools and see the kids' faces again."

Frattaroli said that talking to Grade 3 and 4 students is best because they absorb the information better and pass it along when they are at home.

Grade 3 student Elliott Sherban enjoyed the presentation.

"I thought it was really, really cool," Sherban said.

Sherban recounted an important lesson she took away from the presentation.

"If a pole falls down, you have to waddle. . . you have to shuffle your feet 10 metres away, the length of a school bus, so as to not get shocked."

Synergy North will be going to more schools in the city until mid-May.
