Mayor Keith Hobbs is expected to officially ask that city council send a message to Cliffs Natural Resources stating the city is ready to work with the company to bring a major ore processing facility to Thunder Bay.

Hobbs will bring a resolution forward at city hall during its regular scheduled meeting Monday at city hall. The resolution states that with the site selection process now underway for a ferrochrome processing facility, council should confirm it is ready to work together with Cliffs to explore the potential of establishing the facility here.

The plant would service the massive Ring of Fire mining development, and would create hundreds of jobs for the chosen community.

Cliffs has previously said that it was looking at Sudbury is its base case for the facility.

Also expected at Monday night’s council meeting, city council will hear from a group promoting a sustainable food system in Thunder Bay.
