Mary J.L. celebrates anniversary for new location

By tbnewswatch.com
Brake Repairs! Front Ends! Mufflers! Shocks! Not just mufflers - MINUTE MUFFLER, 677 Memorial Avenue. Open Monday-Saturday. Email: tminutemuffler@shaw.caClick here for details.

One year ago the new Mary J.L. Black library opened its doors to the public for the first time.

And since then the number of users has continued to grow, according to library officials.

To mark the first anniversary, visitors and supporters of Mary J.L. Black were treated with a big birthday cake Wednesday afternoon.

Community development director Tina Tucker says the first year has gone even better than expected, with statistics increasing in almost every area including visitation.

Tucker believes the Westfort library branch has been successful so far because it's new and has a variety of materials and programming for all ages.

Thunder Bay Public Library says:
Here are just some of the statistics for the new Library location (2010 vs 2011) - circulation increased by 37%, visits were up by almost 51% (96,000 visits), library card registrations increased from 380 cards at Mary Black in 2010 to 993 cards in 2011 - this does not take into account those who already have Library cards. Program attendance statistics have increased in every category as well. In addition, Internet usage increased by 12%. The Library's annual report for 2011 will be issued in the next month. It has a breakdown of our overall statistics - in 2010, we recorded 2,941,046 uses - in 2011, people used the Library 3,199,459 times.
