Water bomber helps snuff small forest fire

A Ministry of Natural Resources water-bomber had to be called in to help deal with a small fire near the base of Mount McKay Tuesday.

The small fire was listed as being a tenth of a hectare, and under control with no property being threatened.

Despite the size of the fire, it is now officially known as Thunder Bay-18.

The fire hazard rating in the Northwest region is listed between and high and extreme.

Statistics show, more often than not that forest fires are started by retired/elderly folk actually.

Your thinking of arson... which more often than not is cause by younger people.

Forest fire or arson, both a devastating, and both are senseless.

With all of the winter die back of spruce across the region, the MNR must be a little nervous. We've got a "slave lake" scenario if the conditions stay dry.

These fire conditions are actually not helped by the ban on burning within City limits when conditions permit.

Behind us, the dead brush and undergrowth that we used to pull out and burn each Spring has built up massively these last 2 years. If an accidental fire does not happen first, Mother Nature will ensure that it all burns one day.
