City council has agreed to do business with the owners of a local art shop in order to have an arts centre at Prince Arthur’s Landing.

Council voted in favour of doing business with Lorraine Cull and Angela Jensen, owner of the Painted Turtle Art Shop, at Monday night’s meeting. Cull and Jensen were the only group to submit a proposal to operate the Baggage Building Arts Centre located in the renovated and expanded freight shed.

The art centre will offer multi-disciplinary community arts programming and house a variety of registered and drop-in activities.
There will also be opportunities for selling and displaying locally made works of art and artisan products.

The city plans to open the centre on June 15.

A model train exhibit would be appropriate and relative to the location.

Are they going to make you spend $100 in their store to display your art there as they did at the other gallery on River Street? It's impossible to get your art out there if you haven't been university educated. Which is a real shame, because most people with true talent never attended ANY kind of formal training, rather are self taught and pretty much have to open thier own gallery if they want to show or sell their art (other than craft shows)
