Thunder Bay-area employers are expecting a dynamic hiring climate for the third quarter of 2012, according to the latest Manpower Employment Outlook Survey.

The survey shows that 40 per cent of employers plan to hire between July and September, while none anticipate cutbacks.

Overall, that's a big change from the 14 per cent figure from the previous quarter's employment outlook, and it is also a big improvement over last summer's projection.

So are we going to see a list of said employers that will be looking for workers and the positions they are hiring for? or do we just guess?

Ah yes all the seasonal summer help. Well not like these are jobs that will become careers. And with the changes to EI, haha anyone who works these jobs is going to be screwed. So please let us know when real careers are heading this way, not minimum wage jobs that are a joke.

So I guess nobody should really be complaining that there's no jobs in Thunder Bay? Unless you're lazy or very picky, there should be some sort of job that every one can fill.

Managers and Employees must have a high paying Union job to cut Grass.

So lets see how many employers are going to hire anyone with a higher education or trade certification for a much lower wage than they expect.
Only an employer forced to will do so knowing these people will quit and go back to their regular job in an instant.
I know if and when I am forced to look for work out of my trade I will be sure to inform the prospective employer of my regular rate of pay and when it comes around again I will be leaving with no notice.
That is only fair to the employers out there , I believe it is called "over qualified" and there is no way around it unless the governmet wants everyone to lie about their qualifications and education.
I see the EI system is going to follow in the steps of WSIB and start to deny benifits to many unjustly leaving them out to fend for themselves.
A very unnerving position for "Joe public" to be forced into and it will hurt many family's in the long run.

Love your poor work ethics eddylives! I doubt I'd hire you with an attitude like that! Yes, you may be over qualified for a job, but that shouldn't mean that if you're forced to look for work outside of your trade, that you should see that position as any less than what you currently do. If times are that difficult for you, would you not find whatever job you can just to keep it going? And then once a new job, possibly higher paying, and one that fits your qualifications, would you not be respectful to your employer as they were providing your pay cheques to help you make ends meet?

Sounds to me that you have the arrogance of an over-paid unionized employee.

I wish we could see what type of employers are represeneted by this survey. Everyone here makes the assumption that only minimum wage type jobs are to be expected.
However, I know that the company I work for, as well as similar companies in the area are looking to hire more people, and this is not minimum wage either. Catch is, post secondary education in the field is required.

Have fun trying to get workers in this town that are not just one check wonders. The labor pool in this town is not very deep.

I know during this time frame I except to hire two full time positions for my business and they are not minimum wage jobs either, but I can't find qualified people with enough experience and will probably have to hire out of town.

Wouldn't $10 an hour in a job you didn't like be better than mooching off the taxpayer for a welfare check?

@tannharr...does it make you feel proud riding around on your high horse looking down on those who do not live up to your expectations?

eddylives says:
tannharr you have it bass ackwards lol , it would be poor ethics to lie to employers to just up and quit on them leaving them high and dry lmao.
When I get a layoff from one job and know I am going to the next in a week or a month down the road. Being forced to do work others need more than I is a bad way to be and may just keep the only job they can get away from them.
I believe in being loyal to good employers , not being some one cheque wonder that they waste their time on.
Please look outside the box and see how things really work

PS You sound like a jealous under paid worker wishing there was a union to help deal with employers that walk all over you.

I would say that Tannharr has it absolutely correct. Most posters bitch about the lack of jobs or minimum wages jobs or what ever. Society doesn't owe you anything most certainly not a job. Go find one! If it means leaving town that is the tough reality. Man people leave other countries with nothing to come here to find work and get by fine and become a part of the fabric of this nation. Its the sense of entitlement that many people have ... "I'm not going to work for min wage!!" Ok, so actual taxpayers will support you instead .... nice.

DazeofThunder says:
People leave this town because they do not want to work here...you say too bad...and you wonder why thunder bay will never grow....until you realize your employees and development of those employees is tantamount Thunder Bay will always be low in the talent pool area because the good ones would rather stay home or leave the city than work for you.

Once again the blinders need to be removed to see the big picture baor.
I never said I would not take other work , I stated it is only fair to warn employers of the fact I will quit to go to my real job when called back to it.
Yes people leave other country's to get a better life.....they are usually leaving some very nasty places with much bigger issues than Canada so there is no comparison.
Tax payers do not pay EI...its deducted off of working peoples pay along with taxes and pension.
And if you think you want to be forced to move for work when the government tells you to...That's insane.
How am I going to be able to sell and buy homes over and over every time work dries up in an area , not to mention the fact of booming areas price high to buy and dead areas lose all their value every time...lose lose situation.
What about split familys? have to go to court to bring your kids with you every time?
Not gonna happen people , we are not sheep to be herded around.

Good news, and yet most people post nothing but negative comments about the job situation in the city. Its no wonder this city has so many problems, with the attitudes of so many of its citizens.
