A Thunder Bay man arrested following a hit-and-run involving a pedestrian will spend time in prison.
Steven Torkkeli, 30, was originally charged with failing to stop at an accident causing bodily harm, dangerous driving, impaired driving and obstructing police.
The incident occurred in March 2010 on Secord Street at around 2 a.m.
The pedestrian, 20-year-old Richard Piekarczyck Vacca, was rushed to the hospital with serious head injuries.
In court, Torkkeli was convicted and sentenced to 12 months in jail for failing to remain at the scene, and was handed a two-year ban on driving once he's released.
He was also given a $1,000 fine for obstructing police.
He was found not guilty of impaired driving, and the dangerous driving charge was withdrawn by the Crown.
