Boulevard Lake swimming advisories lifted

By tbnewswatch.com

As temperatures remain high, there is good news for those looking to cool off with a swim.

Officials with the Thunder Bay District Health Unit say they have lifted the swimming advisory issued last week for the main beach and Sunnyside Beach at Boulevard Lake.

The advisory was issued after testing showed higher than acceptable levels of E. coli bacteria.

whodo says:

Why is there no outdoor public swimming pool in the North Ward? They are all in the South Ward.

I can not remember the last time you could safely swim in Boulevard Lake.

because they built a roof over volunteer pool and they closed current river pool when someone drowned.

The outdoor pools in Fort William were built before amalgamation, by the City of Fort William. Port Arthur didn't consider it necessary to invest in outdoor pools because it has Boulevard Lake. It didn't get closed as often back in the 1940s.

Volunteer Pool and the Canada Games Complex offer swimming alternatives for North End residents. The splash pad at Marina Park seems well enjoyed by people of all ages, but mostly kids.

How about ... every summer? Or, right now, for instance?

Aside from today? Late last summer. And most of last summer for that matter. And most of the summer before. And the one before... and the one before...

Boulevard Lake is very close to being classed as a cesspool most summers.

I could care less what the Health Unit says, you wouldn't catch me in Boulevard Lake with a scuba diving suit, let alone a bathing suit. That lake has serious bacterial problems.

So somehow the e-coli levels have fallen despite the heatwave. Did they kill all the pooping geese, seagulls and ducks?

The city should allow some food services to open @ Boulavard so its not just an empty building while the 10 peeps are swimming

Great to see its opened back up!

But the city needs to dredge the lake out! There has been talk for years and nothing has been done.

@ANVIL:

Do you honestly think knocking "whodo" directly is better than a broad negative comment about the swimming facilities he made?

stuck? says:
Let's take all this negativity, and turn it into something positive. Say, perhaps... putting the effort into cleaning up Boulevard instead of discussing how bad it has become.

There are things we can do other than complain. For every action, there's a reaction. Complaining(reaction) is only 50% of 100%(action).
