A 40-year-old Thunder Bay man has been charged with careless driving after a three-vehicle collision Friday morning.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers responded to the crash after 8:30 a.m., at the intersection of Cumberland and River Streets.

Police say an eastbound Ford Explorer entered the intersection on a red light and crashed into a Dodge pickup truck.

The crash caused a secondary collision with an Olds Cutlass.

All three drivers suffered minor injuries and two drivers were sent to the hospital.

I'm glad there were no serious injuries but it is only a matter of time before someone is again seriously injured or killed because some moronic driver who thinks he/she is so important that he/she does not have to obey a the yellow light. The yellow light actually means "STOP" and only proceed if it is not safe to stop and then proceed with CAUTION. I'm also happy to see that the driver is being charged with more than just disobeying the stop signal. I also think that the penalty for running a red or a stop should be increased and in some cases drivers could/should be charged with dangerous driving. Too many innocent people are having their lives messed up by inconsiderate drivers.

Welcome to Thunder Bay. Where every corner has a light and it's always red.
Just another day in Thunder Bay.

I hardly think every corner has a light.
At every intersection there is always a red light, sometimes they are all red at the intersection, but they are never all green (guess what would happen if they were?). P.S. your comment made no sense, unless you were pointing out the obvious. In that case thank you.

I hope no one was seriously injured and wish them a speedy recovery.

I have to say I'm surprised there was an accident at this intersection, and not the one just after it toward Water (at the bridge). That intersection is terrifying - the lanes don't match up, the lines haven't been redone in ages so if someone doesn't realize there is a turning lane they swerve into your lane, and the light doesn't give nearly enough time to get through when it's unsafe to stop on a yellow. Please fix this!

Nobody said anything about a yellow light. Learn how to read. Red is not yellow.

The point is that if the person had obeyed the yellow he would not have been running the red. Learn how to read and comprehend what is written.

What are you talking about "obeyed the yellow"? He entered the intersection on the red, according to the story, not the yellow. Maybe a lesson in reading and comprehension yourself there, Doug.

Doug Meyers says:
Yes and there was a yellow right before there was a red. I totally understand the situation and fully comprehend the law regarding yellow and red lights. In attempting to explain how this "accident" happened, I have obviously not made it simple enough, but I don't have the skill nor the time to draw pictures.

I don't see anything about a yellow light either Doug. I'm sure if he seen the Red light he would of stop.Maybe we should all tryed to pay more attention.

not sure what some people classify as minor injuries, but 5 broken ribs, a sliced liver and a cracked berterbra to me are not minor injuries in my eyes.
