Hydro rates rise by six per cent

Residents will be seeing their hydro rates going up by more than 6 per cent. Officials with the Ontario Energy Board released their decision on the rates for Thunder Bay Hydro Friday. Residents should expect an increase of 6.

Residents will be seeing their hydro rates going up by more than 6 per cent.

Officials with the Ontario Energy Board released their decision on the rates for Thunder Bay Hydro Friday.

Residents should expect an increase of 6.35 per cent or roughly $6.75 more to a household that uses 800kWh. Businesses received a 5.18 per cent increase.

The changes to the rates went into effect May 1.

The decision included changes to both provincial and local charges including the April 5 announcement about increases in time-of-use rates, new provincial charge for smart meter entity and one-year rate rider for disposal of old meters.
