The Port of Thunder Bay has started to rebound after a slow start to the year.
Lingering winter weather is being blamed for that slow start, but with more spring-like temperatures hitting the region statistics are also heating up.
Reports from May show the port handled 45 vessels and more than 860,000 tonnes of cargo last month.
That's a five per cent increase from May of last year.
But for the year-to-date, the numbers are lagging behind 2012, with 1.7-million tonnes of cargo shipped so far. That represents nearly an eight per cent drop from the same time in 2012.
