Sandy Lake man arrested for second-degree murder

Police have made an arrest in connection with a murder that took place at a remote First Nation last month. Officials with the OPP and Nishnawbe Aski Police Service were called to Sandy Lake First Nation on May 12.

Police have made an arrest in connection with a murder that took place at a remote First Nation last month.

Officials with the OPP and Nishnawbe Aski Police Service were called to Sandy Lake First Nation on May 12.  An adult male was found in a home, and he was pronounced dead at the hospital. 

Following a post mortem in Kenora, it was determined the deceased, 29-year-old Uriah Kakepetum of Sandy Lake First Nation, was the victim of a homicide. 

Police say officers arrested a 34-year-old man from the same community Monday, and charged him with second-degree murder.
