Police say a two-year-old-boy survived a car crash because of a properly installed child seat.

Officials with the Thunder Bay Police Service say the crash took place around 1 p.m. Wednesday at the corner of Theresa and Bruce Streets.

Police say a westbound SUV went through a posted stop sign and struck a southbound Chevrolet Cavalier sideways.

The impact sent both vehicles off the roadway.

The driver and four passengers of the SUV received non-life threatening injuries.

Paramedics rushed the driver and passenger of the other vehicle to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre with non-life threatening injuries.

The two-year-old suffered cuts to his face.

Police would like to remind all drivers who transport children that the responsibility falls entirely upon them to ensure that the children are properly protected.
