Ford should take a break, seek help: Hobbs

Embattled Toronto mayor Rob Ford should take a break and get some help, says Keith Hobbs.

The Thunder Bay mayor last week said that everyone is innocent until proven guilty. But after Ford's bombshell admission Tuesday that he has smoked crack cocaine in the last year, Hobbs said something needs to be done.

"The man needs help. He's got an addiction problem obviously and I agree that he should go and get some help," Hobbs said Wednesday afternoon.

After months of lying Hobbs said he can't respect the fact that Ford finally came clean. He recalls a time when a contingent from Thunder Bay flew to Toronto to meet with Ford over light rail contracts. After waiting more than 30 minutes, they realized Ford wasn't coming.

"I wasn't too impressed with the man," Hobbs said.

Even though there are several scandals across the political landscape right now, Hobbs said the majority of Canadian politicians are honourable. He points to the recently resigned mayor of Terrace Bay Michael King, who stepped down on principle after the town's negotiations over MPAC reassessments, as an example of an honourable municipal politician.
