Texas driver charged in Red Rock cycling deaths

A 66-year-old Austin, Texas man is facing careless driving charges in the high-profile death of two North Glengarry, Ont. cyclists on July 23.

Robert and Irene Booth were killed near Red Rock when they were struck by a pick-up truck, while part of a group of 25 cyclists making their way across the country.

Police say the cyclists were struck by an east-bound pick-up, which then hit a pair of westbound vehicles, another pick-up hauling a trailer and a tractor trailer unit.

Occupants of the suspect vehicle and the transport were sent to hospital for treatment of their injuries.

The driver of the east-bound pick-up, who was not named by police, will appear in court in Nipigon on March 24, 2014.
