Mayors of Northern Ontario cities are on the same page when it comes to several major provincial issues.
The five Northern Ontario Large Urban Mayors met with several provincial ministries in Thunder Bay Friday on everything from mining to the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation.
Mayor Keith Hobbs said transportation for First Nations communities, and how better infrastructure could help improve health outcomes among other things, was a big issue for the discussions.
He saw various ministries working together to make that happen.
"It's really refreshing to see that the province gets that," he said.
The mayors also pushed the forestry sector. Hobbs said NGOs have had too much say in that sector. While wildlife and the environment are important, a balance needs to be found.
"We need to cut more wood," he said. "More wood burns in this province than we cut."
Sault Ste. Marie mayor Debbie Amaroso said it was good to see some frameworks develop to get some movement on the province's Growth Plan for Northern Ontario.
"Now we can start getting some traction," she said.
