Council calling on CBC to stop cuts to its local station

The public broadcaster announced deep cuts last week, including the loss of two staff and the afternoon show Voyage North in Thunder Bay.

Current River Coun. Andrew Foulds said the cuts would mean the region would lose part of its cultural fabric. He said council and the public need to rally similar to a campaign in 2009 in order to save the staff positions and the afternoon show.

"It's very serious and it is happening very quickly," Foulds said.

The city is calling on the CBC to cancel all programming and staff cuts Thunder Bay and that a copy of the resolution be sent to Prime Minister Stephen Harper, the Canadian Heritage ministry and other regional politicians and organizations.
