FORT WILLIAM FIRST NATION - Police are looking into a case involving an apparently mutilated bear.
Anishinabek Police Service acting Sgt. Rob Pelletier confirmed that a black bear corpse was discovered with its paws cut off near the unofficial landfill site in Fort William First Nation Wednesday.
The area is mostly secluded with the closest home situated about a kilometre away. Despite its seclusion, four people found and reported the bear.
“We did go out to the scene to observe the bear,” Pelletier said. “All four paws appeared to have been cut off with some kind of saw.”
Photographs of the black bear with its front paws cut off surfaced on Facebook Wednesday and has been copied and shared through social media numerous times since.
The investigation is ongoing.
