CTV is returning to Thunder Bay Television.

Dougall Media vice-president and general manager Don Caron confirmed the company has reached a programming deal to replace CBC on CKPR-TV.

The decision came after CBC announced it was discontinuing affiliation agreements by 2016.

"We had to seek alternative programming," said Caron, adding he decided to be proactive and applied for disaffiliation from the CBC, which had been supplying programming to TBT for 60 years.

The decision was approved by the CRTC on June 11 and as of Sept. 1, 2014, CKPR will offer CTV's full programming slate alongside Global Television on CHFD.

"We will be carrying far superior programming," said Caron. "Of the top 20 shows that are aired, we will carry almost all of them from this point forward."

"So if you want to watch the top programs, you can see them now on either one of our channels," he added.

The switch has been an ongoing process and Caron said it all came together in the last three months.
