THUNDER BAY -- Police are investigating a grassy area in the Intercity after a body was discovered Friday evening.
Thunder Bay Fire Rescue responded to reports of smoke near a footpath used to travel between the Intercity Shopping Centre and 11th Avenue at around 10 p.m. and discovered the body of an unidentified man.
The Thunder Bay Police Service immediately took control of the scene. Officers remained present throughout Saturday as the investigation continued.
Initial reports from fire officials said one person was taken to hospital suffering from serious "burn injuries."
An autopsy is scheduled to be performed in Toronto on Monday.
