Thunder Bay Police say reports of a suspected Minnesota killer on the loose in the city have proven to be false.
Police say a car matching the description of murder suspect Lyle Hoffman was spotted Thursday night in the Riverside Drive area, which was quickly contained by police. They immediately issued a safety warning, telling the public Hoffman is believed to be armed and dangerous. They were already on alert that Hoffman, a known travler according to U.S. law enforcment, had possibly crossed into Canada.
Hoffman, a Minneapolis native, is wanted in connection with the Aug. 11 death of Kelly Phillips in Arden Hills, Minn. He's believed to be the ex-boyfriend of the vice-president and general counsel at Boston Scientific, according to WCCO in Minneapolis. The TV station says Phillips was shot three times at an Arden Hills, Minn. gas station.
There is a $25,000 reward for his arrest. The gun used in the crime has not been recovered.
According to WCCO, Minneapolis’ CBS affiliate, Hoffman has been known to travel throughout the U.S. and Canada, and enjoys backpacking.
Hoffman is considered armed and dangerous and police warn not to approach him if spotted.
“Call police if you spot him,” the release says.
