OPP arrest suspect with assistance from canine unit

MARATHON, Ont. -- The OPP have arrested a suspect accused of ditching a stolen vehicle Saturday afternoon.

MARATHON, Ont. -- The OPP have arrested a suspect accused of ditching a stolen vehicle Saturday afternoon.

Police discovered a vehicle, which had been reported stolen from Sudbury, in a ditch on Highway 17 a short distance from the Pic River Bridge around 2 p.m..

One of the occupants of the vehicle was arrested without incident while the other fled into the bush, prompting the OPP to issue an advisory to motorists in the area to not pick up any hitchhikers.

He was arrested about 90 minutes later after assistance from the OPP Emergency Response Team and canine unit.

A 22-year-old British Columbia man is facing charges of possession of property obtained by crime, resisting a peace officer, failure to comply with recognizance and breach of probation. The other occupant is also facing charges.
