THUNDER BAY -- The Lakehead Labour Council believes voters need to see and hear the candidates running in the upcoming municipal election.

“Not just rely on name recognition or how many signs are out there. We really want people to think about what they are doing when they go to vote,” said Marg Arnone, recording secretary for the labour council and a member of its political action committee.

To help citizens get to know the candidates before the Oct. 27 election, the council is hosting three back-to-back forums starting with one for mayoral and at-large candidates on Sept. 30.

All school board candidates are invited to attend the second forum on Oct. 1 and the forum for ward candidates is set for Oct. 2.

All forums will be held at the Moose Hall from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Arnone said all candidates are invited to take part in the forums and the general public is encouraged to come and will have the opportunity to ask questions about city issues.

In the past, the labour council has held the forums at the Lakehead Labour Centre. Arnone said they decided to move to the Moose Hall because it’s a larger facility and still has ample parking and is accessible by city transit.
