THUNDER BAY -- A suspect is in custody after allegedly trying to flee from officers following an early Saturday morning traffic stop.
Officers with the Thunder Bay Police Service attempted to pull over a vehicle on Wentworth Avenue around 4:30 a.m.
When the officer approached the vehicle the male driver sped away at a high rate of speed, driving over neighbourhood yards. The vehicle then crashed into a fence on Edgewood Place, where the man then ran away on foot.
He was found walking on Red River Road around 5 a.m. and was arrested.
The investigation subsequently the crashed vehicle had been stolen earlier in the night. Police officials describe the vehicle as having sustained significant damage.
The 34-year-old man has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, flight from police and dangerous driving. He was remanded to the district jail and appeared in court Monday morning.
