THUNDER BAY -- Officials with the city’s police service officers say officers dealt with an unusually busy day and night to start the month.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers responded to more than 224 calls for service in a 24-hour stretch that began at 6 a.m. Wednesday.

From those calls, police had 23 people held in custody for a variety of offences.

Eighty four of the calls for service dealt with “intoxicated individuals.”

The 224 calls is strange for a weekday. City police typically respond to 350 to 450 calls for service through the course of an entire weekend, from Friday evening into Monday morning.
