THUNDER BAY -- All of the city's outdoor events could be smoke-free this year.

On Monday council will vote to make Summer in the Parks, Movie Nights in the Park, Exploring our Routes, Culture Days and the Youth Festival smoke-free starting with the first Summer in the Parks July 8.

Administration says 75 per cent of of people surveyed at outdoor events last year supported the ban.

For this year the ban would use "encouraged compliance" rather than a bylaw but administration recommends that the city find a policy in the future.

Childcare, roadwork also on agenda
Also Monday, council will hear how its Task Force on City-operated Child Care will review municipal daycares.

The task force will look at everything from locations to hours of operation.

A $2.6 million contract for May Street reconstruction is also up for approval to Nadin Contracting along with a $2 million contract to Menei Bros Contracting for Northwood water mains and storm sewers.
