Green Party nominates Dryden teacher in Kenora Riding

DRYDEN -- The Green Party of Canada has nominated Dryden elementary school teacher, Ember McKillop as its candidate in the very competitive Kenora Riding.

DRYDEN -- The Green Party of Canada has nominated Dryden elementary school teacher, Ember McKillop as its candidate in the very competitive Kenora Riding.

McKillop describes herself as a "serious Northerner," having resided in cities, towns and remote First Nations in Northwestern Ontario.

"The Boreal forest is the largest intact forest left in the world. It's essential to the identity of the people living in the North; however, it is constantly under threat," she says in a release. "The land, weater and air are heavily stressed as a result of industrial and commercial development, which has been carried out for short term gain, with little thought for the future."

The Green candidate is active with the Canadian Red Cross Diaster Response Team, Bird Studies Canada, the Second Chance Pet Network and the Pickle Lake Food Distribution Network.

McKillop's husband Tim carried the Green Party banner in the 2014 provincial election, collecting three per cent of the vote.

She will challenge Conservative incumbent Greg Rickford, former NDP MPP Howard Hampton, and former Liberal MP Bob Nault for the Kenora seat in October's federal election.
