OPP Media Release

(KENORA, ON) Members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call just after 10:00 am on Tuesday October 6, 2015 that a male suspect had been observed with a firearm in the trail system in the North end of Kenora, near a number of schools. All schools in the area were placed on immediate lockdown.

This included Beaver Brae Secondary School, Evergreen Public School, Valleyview Public School, Pope John Paul II School, Ecole Ste Marguerite Bourgeoys, St. Thomas Aquinas High School as well as the Kenora Catholic District School Board Office.

Police attended immediately and within a short time had located and arrested two subjects.  Pope John Paul, Ecole St Marguerite Bourgeoys and St Thomas Aquinas High School continued to keep their doors locked and students secure as police searched for evidence in the area.

Around 1:15 pm, police located the suspect firearm in the area.  It was determined to be a pistol style pellet gun.

The lockdowns have been lifted at all schools.  One 17 year old male youth remains in custody as the investigation continues.  Charges are pending.
