THUNDER BAY -- A local landmark will be warm this winter with a move indoors.

The turtle at Vickers Park, a playground favourite for decades, was removed recently along with several pieces of playground equipment.

Area residents noticed the disappearance of the playground equipment and wondered if it, including the iconic turtle, was going to be returned.

City parks manager Paul Fayrick said that equipment, which includes a slide structure, was aging and will be replaced next year.

The turtle will spend the winter indoors for repairs. It will be back home next spring.
