Five charged in district jail riot

THUNDER BAY - Five inmates have been charged in last year's riot at the district jail.

The Thunder Bay Police Service announced charges against the individuals on Friday, two months after the riot and hostage taking of a correctional officer at the Thunder Bay District Jail on Dec. 7.

Jeffrey Kakegamic, 35, is charged with hostage taking, rioting, assaulting a peace officer, assault with a weapon, threats to cause bodily harm and mischief under $5,000.

Jeffrey Achneepineskum, 23, is charged with hostage taking, rioting, threats to kill, assault with a weapon and mischief over $5,000. His next court apperance will be on March 10.

Justin Beaver, 24, is charged with rioting and hostage taking. 

Carl Rae, 33, is charged with rioting and hostage taking.

Russell Fiddler, 27, is charged with rioting and hostage taking.

The four other individuals are scheduled to be in court on Feb. 16 for video court.
