The Matawa First Nations group has new hope in its efforts to bring high speed Internet to five remote communities. Matawa officials met today with provincial and federal governments, to get the project moving forward.

Today's meeting comes a month after the Matawa Broadband Working Group presented their project proposal to representatives of the provincial and federal governments.

Matawa Economic Development Advisor Jason Rasevych says if the two governments can commit to funding, they can connect five Matawa communities to high speed Internet by 2018.

He adds that Wednesday’s meeting with government representatives was a step in the right direction.

Rasevych says the project could cost about $50 million.

Another meeting is scheduled within the next few weeks.
