The federal Minister of Status of Women says the Liberal government is not yet ready to announce formal dates for an inquiry into missing and murdered indigenous women.

Minister Patty Hajdu has spent months touring the country with Indigenous Affairs Minister Carolyn Bennett and Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould. The trio have been speaking to families, survivors, advocates and other partners in the process.

It is part of the preliminary phase of inquiry consultations that will help determine what form the inquiry will take, and when it will happen.

Hajdu has previously said she expects to announce inquiry dates before the summer, but emphasizes the federal government is still seeking feedback on dates from stakeholders as well.

Hajdu adds that she still expects to release details on inquiry dates before the start of summer.
